"Kids Eat Right" month

August is Kids Eat Right month. The Academy of Nutrition Dietetics (AND) recognizes this month as a chance to acknowledge the need and promote awareness of dietary health in children.

It's overwhelming the number of kids that get excessive juice, fruit snacks, cookies, cakes, chips, and extensive other "junk" snacks, along with a poor diet. Many times it is to get the child to cooperate, be quiet, or is what the adults eat, therefore the whole family is involved. It is very important to teach children, at a young age, to eat healthy and learn why it's important to eat healthy, while allowing to have treat every once in a while-instead of constantly.

The growing epidemic of overweight and obese children is something that can be prevented, and yet it is something I see every day. It starts with small choices. The small choices can prevent big, dangerous, events/habits in the future.
